Putting Clients in Control of Their Waste Data
About Waste Mission
Waste Mission are a UK-based waste management company with a refreshingly different approach. They don’t just collect and process waste, they pay their customers for it. By promoting responsible disposal and rewarding recycling, they encourage businesses across all sectors to rethink how they handle their waste.
The Challenge
Waste Mission were spending too much time manually responding to client requests, from carbon reports to compliance documents. We built a secure online portal that gives their customers access to live data, reports and documentation, all pulled straight from their ERP system. It’s taken hours of admin off the team and turned reporting into a strength, not a struggle.
That admin burden was growing quickly, and it was limiting how many customers they could support. They needed a smarter way to surface all this data. Nothing existed in the industry, so they came to us to build it from scratch.
Adding to the complexity, the underlying data in their ERP system (Greentree) was fragmented across multiple unlinked tables. This made even basic reporting difficult, and the system itself couldn’t be modified. The new platform had to work entirely read-only.

Our Approach
We designed and built a bespoke web app using our Laravel-based Ensemble framework. The portal gives Waste Mission’s clients secure access to a wide range of live data, pulled directly from Greentree without altering the source system. Key features include:
- Custom dashboard with collection and disposal data
- Breakdown of materials and financial earnings
- Carbon savings calculations and certification
- Document repository for invoices and compliance
- Transport calendar showing scheduled collections
- Asset tracking (such as skips and containers placed on-site)

We also integrated the platform with Twilio for SMS alerts and SendGrid for email notifications to keep clients informed in real time.
A standout challenge came from Waste Mission’s business model. Their customers are also their suppliers. Since Waste Mission pays clients for their recyclable waste, we had to build the system around purchase orders instead of the more typical sales model. That required careful handling across both the ERP integration and our own platform.
We also developed a custom carbon savings engine to estimate the environmental impact of each waste collection event. Clients can view their individual carbon savings along with downloadable certificates for compliance and sustainability reporting.
When Waste Mission needed a working demo ready for a trade show before the platform was complete, we prioritised a functional prototype to support their early marketing efforts and help sign up users.

















The Outcome
The platform is now live with more than 375 users and counting. Routine client requests that once took hours now take seconds, or none at all. For the first time, Waste Mission’s clients can log in and see everything in one place, from collection stats to carbon savings. It’s helped the business scale without adding pressure and has become a standout feature in conversations with new prospects.

We continue to work with Waste Mission, providing ongoing support, maintenance, and technical guidance. As the business grows and more users come on board, we're helping ensure the platform remains stable, secure, and ready to adapt to future needs.
