Designing for Legacy, Heritage and the Future
About Aga Khan Studs
Aga Khan Studs is one of the most respected names in thoroughbred breeding, with operations across Ireland, France and further afield. The brand carries over a century of history, combining a heritage of equine excellence with a modern, global operation.
They needed a new website design that reflected this heritage while offering a refined, modern experience for their international audience.
The Challenge
The brief was to rethink the UX and visual design of the Aga Khan Studs website, with a focus on usability, structure and storytelling. The content itself was rich, but the existing design didn’t make it easy to explore or understand.
The site caters to a wide audience including breeders, journalists, racing professionals and enthusiasts. Each group comes with different needs and expectations, so our designs needed to be clear, structured and accessible.
It also needed to feel appropriate. Aga Khan Studs has a long-standing reputation, and the site needed to carry that sense of prestige without feeling flashy or off-brand.
Project Snapshot
Client: Aga Khan Studs
Industry: Thoroughbred Horse Breeding
Services: UX/UI Design, Prototyping
Duration: 12 Weeks
Budget: £10K - £25K

Our Approach
We designed a full set of responsive layouts in Figma, covering both desktop and mobile. Everything was delivered as fully interactive prototypes, allowing the client to test and share with stakeholders before development began.
- A reworked information hierarchy to make the content easier to explore
- Mobile-first thinking, with redesigned menus, filters and navigation
- A calm and confident visual language to reflect the brand’s stature
- Real content used throughout to avoid placeholders and lorem ipsum
- A flexible design system to support internal updates post-launch
The process was highly collaborative. We shared progress early and often, gathering feedback from internal teams to make sure the new layouts supported their real publishing needs.
This wasn’t just a visual update. It was about helping Aga Khan Studs tell their story, from breeding heritage to current champions, in a way that felt seamless and intuitive.

The Outcome
The final designs were handed over in Figma as interactive prototypes, ready for development. With mobile and desktop versions covered, a documented component library and clearly defined layouts, the handover was smooth and developer-friendly.
The new look elevates the Aga Khan Studs brand, helping them present their horses, history and operations with the clarity and elegance they deserve.
What's Next
The new Aga Khan Studs website is now live. The final result brings together elegant design and practical structure, helping users explore the stud’s heritage, horses and operations with ease.
We’re continuing to support the team post-launch with design advice, updates and refinements as needed. As new content is added and priorities evolve, we’re on hand to keep things looking sharp and running smoothly.
